Name: Magona Pietah, currently calling herself the Designer in an attempt to sound older than she is. ...It's the Dolorosa you guys.
Gender: Female
Source: Homestuck
Canon point: A sweep or so after she leaves the brooding caverns with her grub
Age: 12 sweeps (24-25 in human years)
Colour: jade green #008141
Chumhandle: abstruseGenetrix

History: The troll to become known as the Dolorosa hatched in the dim tunnels of the brooding caverns, among the rest of her blood caste. Despite not crawling through the trial caverns, Magona and her hatchmates were rigorously assessed by adult jadebloods for any weaknesses or defects - anyone who let an obvious mutation or defect pupate was of course culled themselves, so needless to say the surviving jade grubs were flawless. As wigglers, she and her hatchmates began their training immediately, with specialized lessons and difficult tests to ensure only the best survived. As her training progressed, the young Magona was discovered to have an immunity to daylight - a mutation, but one of the useful sort. As day and night were indistinguishable inside the caverns, Magona began to be sent outside on errands for the sake of convenience.

It was on one of those errands - specifically, to clean up the grounds where lusii collected the surviving grubs from the trial caverns - that she discovered a small grub, unnaturally bright red. Magona had been taught that blood color mutations were linked to disgusting and fatal mutations, but this little specimen was perfect, albeit somewhat nubby-horned. She knew there was something special about it, that it would grow up to be a very special troll. And yet, no lusus would take it, not with that color...

Propelled by a sense of destiny, compassion, and adventure, Magona Pietah fled the brooding caverns with a basket of makeshift supplies and a mutant grub. Unwilling to draw too much on official caste rations lest she be discovered as a runaway, Magona began working as a seamstress. To help them get by, the delinquent jadeblood would pick up other trolls in bars, pail or pap them, and take food and spare change from their hives. (It's for the best that the mutant grub was so sweet-tempered, as Magona would sometimes conceal him in her sewing basket and take him on these excursions. A large piece of viscous sugarplant product or similarly sticky food was generally enough to keep him quiet. Failing that, Magona variously claimed him to be a 'loafbeast,' her next meal, a game grub, or other similarly-shaped moving object. She also dyed him maroon once or twice.)

All things must come to an end, though, and when her grub began pupating, Magona knew it was going to be too risky to stay in populated areas. So she left once again, this time to build a hive in the desert. It was there that Geshua hatched, while Magona was still learning how to live self-sufficiently. Slowly but surely, she began relying less and less on contact with the outer world. As of the time she is taken to SBURB, Geshua is five sweeps old, and just beginning to experience the visions that will guide his later life.

Personality: Magona is practical, a little impulsive, didactic, somewhat sheltered, a perfectionist, and quietly terrified. Lacking the guidance that her Descendent had the benefit of, Magona is feeling her way through life on and, at the moment, deeply unsure of herself and her overall goals. Right now, she's struggling to turn away from the bigger picture, but educating Geshua is forcing her to reason her way through uncomfortable truths about her world. That said, once she's made a decision, she seldom goes back on it. She's also a member of the Snarky Broad Club, and definitely a meddler. (In her career as a barfly, she was known as the easiest conciliatory barfly around. Magona could never resist a good auspistizing.) She definitely wants to fix things, and leaving tasks undone bothers her deeply.

Abilities & physical limitations: Being a troll, Magona can fight adequately, and has the standard troll benefits relative to human norms. She also has the ability to withstand Alternian daylight, and has extensive knowledge relating to brooding caverns, mixed drinks, sewing, fashion, and how to construct hive defenses that will confound the swarms of undead that are native to Alternia's deserts.

Appearance: Alternately, the Sexy Cavern Attendant version of this outfit.

Strife Specibus: Scissorkind / Sawkind

Prototyping: A non-lethal camera output image (aka a photograph) of Geshua as a grub, wearing an adorable outfit, resulting in Grubsprite

Title: Pillar of Salt

In-game abilities: A Pillar is steadfast and unwavering - capable of supporting others, but just as capable of standing alone as a testament and a beacon. In practical terms, this means Magona is both a healer and a frontline combatant, depending on how she chooses to focus herself. The most important thing is that she not waver or flinch. As a Hero of Salt, she preserves and excoriates, purifies and blights. In more prosaic terms, a little is vital, some is good, and a lot will kill you. She can heal (even though it hurts like hell), remove taints and, eventually, place curses. The more offensive abilities will come as she ascends her echeladder, as they generally require, well, more salt. Compare using salt as a flavoring, to a disinfectant, to a preservative, and then to sow the fields with.

Planet:
Land of Reeds and Rivers
Magona's bright red hermit crab Consorts are huddled out of sight in damp tunnels, among marshy reeds in a gigantic isthmus. The water level should be much lower, but the Denizen has flooded the Land and buried the shells underwater where the crabs can't go. The shells that they still have are prized heirlooms and the source of no little conflict crabs and crab families. The rest of the crabs must make do with their spiraling abdomens exposed and subsequently hate to be seen.
Denizen: Isis
